My Design Principles

Clarity, Character and Human Choice

My principles guide choices about information, attention, visual identity and interaction. I use them to judge whether a product communicates clearly, behaves consistently and gives people enough control over what happens next.

People should understand the next step and retain control over the choice.

These principles apply across my work. Their expression depends on the task, the stakes and the conditions in which someone uses the product.

Make the next step clear

I use language, hierarchy and feedback to help people understand where they are, what they can do and what an action will change. Important information should be available when it is needed.

Keep behavior consistent

I give recurring actions, content patterns and visual relationships a consistent treatment. Typography, spacing, color and component behavior should help people recognize how the interface works.

Preserve choice and recovery

I question interactions that conceal information, pressure a choice or make an action unnecessarily difficult to reverse. I design feedback and recovery paths so people can recognize a mistake and continue.

Build accessibility into the decisions

I consider contrast, readable labels, keyboard access, focus states and alternative ways to interact. I carry those requirements into implementation and review the experience across screen sizes and interaction states.

Give the product a distinct character

I use visual identity and detail to express the product’s purpose without obscuring its content or controls. The same care should be present in routine interactions and the first impression.

I judge the result by how well these principles hold together. Visual character, ease of use and control all influence the quality of the experience.
